Earlier this week, Offbeat_ spoke to Hideout, a Lincoln-based band whose members all met at university and continue to play throughout studying their degrees. We wanted to know more about how they manage band life whilst also being full time students, and what they're hoping the new year will bring them. Bassist Connor Bale answered some of our most pressing questions:
Tell us a little bit about Hideout?
"So, we're Hideout, we have Alex on drums, me on bass, Jack on guitar and lead vocals, and Zach on guitar and backup vocals. We all met at university (of Lincoln), we all study together and we also all used to live together in second year. We play as often as we can, and what we play is a mix of Indie and punk."
If you could sum up your sound in three words, what would they be?
"I asked Zach and he described us as 'real good vibes' which i think is a good way to describe us as we try and make sure everyone at our shows has a lot of fun!"
Is it difficult being in a band and making music whilst also studying for a degree?
"It was extremely difficult starting the band and studying at the same time. Trying to find a balance was a nightmare, but the fact that we all study the same course and we could rehearse in the studios we study in, really helped. We're all third year music students so we're all on the same page."
What other artists/bands have influenced you?
"We're influenced a lot by bands like Catfish and the Bottlemen, Foo Fighters and blink 182."
How did you decide on the name Hideout?
"We were just coming up with names together whilst we were in the pub, and Hideout came up as a suggestion. If i remember rightly, it was the only one we all unanimously voted on!"
What's your favourite gig you've ever played?
"Our favourite gig was probably our most recent one, which was a headline show at Liquor, with Tom Locke and In Debt. It was a really fun show to play and it was great hearing everyone singing to 'Going Nowhere' and enjoying the new songs we played that night."
Where do you see the band in five years time?
"In five years we hope to be regularly playing shows around the country, hopefully having released our first full-length album."
Where can people come to see you next?
"We're playing at Liquor again in February, on the 2nd, for 'Forget Me Rocks', which is a fundraiser for the Alzheimers Society. It will be a great show with some incredible bands on the bill."
And finally, any big plans coming up?
"At the moment our plans are to record and release another EP, following our release of 'What Came Before', our first EP."
