The 61st Annual Grammy Awards will take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, 10th February. It's the biggest award show in music, and we thought it would be fun to tell your our predictions for some of our favourite categories.
Song of the Year:
“All the Stars” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA
“Boo’d Up” by Ella Mai
“God’s Plan” by Drake
“In My Blood” by Shawn Mendes
“The Joke” by Brandi Carlile
“The Middle” by Zedd, Maren Morris, and Grey
“Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper
“This Is America” by Childish Gambino
Victoria's Prediction: "For me, Song of the Year is usually the easiest category to predict but following Bruno Mars' win last year, I'm not too sure. If I had to put money on it, I would say All the Stars would win. It's one of the most streamed songs of the year and it has that emotive feel most of the previous Song of the Year's winners have. Saying that, This Is America was easily one of the most talked about songs of the year. With it's political narrative and unconventional choreography, I think it could be a toss-up between the two."
Album of the Year:
Invasion of Privacy by Cardi B
By the Way, I Forgive You by Brandi Carlile
Scorpion by Drake
H.E.R. by H.E.R.
Beerbongs & Bentleys by Post Malone
Dirty Computer by Janelle Monáe
Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves
Black Panther: The Album, Music From and Inspired By Various Artists featuring Kendrick Lamar
Kezia's Prediction: "2018 has been an undeniably big year for Cardi B. She might be one of the most influential female rap artists to emerge in recent years and she's taken social media by storm with her new album 'Invasion of Privacy'. I believe the album could win this category due to it's huge impact on the female rap industry. That said, I think Drake's 'Scorpion' stands a high chance of winning due to the numerous streaming records it broke on the week of it's release."
Best Rock Album:
Rainier Fog by Alice In Chains
Mania by Fall Out Boy
Prequelle by Ghost
From the Fires by Greta Van Fleet
Pacific Daydream by Weezer
Manisha's Prediction: "If anyone was going to win this category it would be Alice in Chains. With this album, they have come full circle with their music and revisits their Seattle roots. Even though they aren't really breaking ground with a fresh new sound, the album is still strong and consists of signature vocals and riffs."
Best R&B Album:
Sex & Cigarettes by Toni Braxton
Good Thing by Leon Bridges
Honestly by Lalah Hathaway
H.E.R. by H.E.R
Gumbo Unplugged (Live) by P. J. Morton
Victoria's Prediction: "H.E.R has been nominated for a total of FIVE Grammy's this year and if she was going to take one home for any of the cateogories she's been nominated in, it would be Best R&B album. To me, none of the other nominees to the vocal powerhouse that is H.E.R."
Best Rap Album:
Invasion of Privacy by Cardi B
Swimming by Mac Miller
Victory Lap by Nipsey Hussle
Daytona by Pusha T
Astroworld by Travis Scott
Victoria's Prediction: "If Travis doesn't win Best Rap Album, I'd be surprised. 2018 truly was HIS year. Astroworld was critically acclaimed amongst critics and fans, and in my opinion, he had the best debut rap album since Kendrick. He has been nominated for three Grammys before, but has yet to win. He has finally been nominated for music that is primarily his own. Now is his chance to take home the trophy."
Best Alternative Music Album:
Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino by Arctic Monkeys
Colors by Beck
Utopia by Björk
American Utopia by David Byrne
Masseduction by St. Vincent
Kezia's Prediction:"I'm not a huge Bjork fan, but listening to her album 'Utopia' was definitely an experience. It's her first album in three years and after the let down that was 'Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino' by Arctic Monkeys, I conclude that hers was the better comeback."
Best Pop Album:
Camila by Camila Cabello
Meaning of Life by Kelly Clarkson
Sweetener by Ariana Grande
Shawn Mendes by Shawn Mendes
Beautiful Trauma by P!nk
Reputation by Taylor Swift
Manisha's Prediction: "We all know that Ariana Grande has had a tough 2018. Her album 'Sweetener' has received a lot of hype and positive feedback since being released and I think if someone was going to win it would definitely be her. However, Camila Cabello's debut album after leaving Fifth Harmony was a huge hit in the summer so, I feel like it would be a close call."
Best New Artist:
Chloe x Halle
Luke Combs
Greta Van Fleet
H.E.R.
Dua Lipa
Margo Price
Bebe Rexha
Jorja Smith
Kezia's Prediction: "If I was choosing who I WANT to win this category, it would be Jorja Smith, hands down. She blessed 2018 with a seriously good debut album and I wouldn't be surprised if it won her a Grammy. However, Chloe x Halle's 'The Kids Are Alright' was surprisingly refreshing and polished for such young artists, which I think could make them worthy winners of Best New Artist."
